Need Laptop advice

So, I'm going to buy a laptop sometime in the next month. I'm selling my old desktop computer, so my laptop will become my only computer from now on. So, basically, I'm asking for some advice from all the laptop users out there. Would you go with a smaller, lighter laptop, or a bigger, heavier laptop that has more power and a big ass screen? Any advice from current laptop owners would be much appreciated.
